Happy February, Rainbow Families!
It’s hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year already! The classroom is humming with activity and learning as the children have settled back into the working groove. The children have been enjoying building maps, building and reading sentences and words with the movable alphabet, working with the decimal system numerals and golden beads, peeling and eating cuties, and making themselves a snack with the ever popular cracker and jam lesson.
January was full of highlights for us as well, including the celebration of the Lunar New Year with a parade through the school with dragon masks and lanterns (and a special presentation with Chinese food from Panda Express), skating on the beautiful ice rink, and proudly sharing their work and favorite lessons on Mom’s Night. Thank you to all who came!
In February, we will learn about the continent of Africa; continue with magnetism and nutrition; explore the story of St. Valentine, love, and friendship in honor of Valentine’s Day; and investigate the functions of our hearts and blood.
For Valentine’s Day, the children will be drawing a classmate’s name for whom they will make a special decorated handmade valentine during the morning work period. At circle time, the children will get to present their cards to each other. It is so wonderful to see the love and care that each child puts into their cards. There will also be materials out on the art shelf all week so that the children can make cards for everyone they love, if they would like to. Since they will be making handmade cards, there is no need to bring any extra cards in. Please keep any special candy for a treat at home. Thank you!
With the wonky weather the past few weeks, Mr. Matt has been giving the ice rink some much needed TLC this week. Hopefully, it will be back and ready next week! We’ll keep you updated on the ice rink status each week. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to help with skating on Wednesdays! It has been so wonderful to have you there. Check out the sign up on Bloomz, if you’d like to drop by one week. Mr. Matt has also requested that nobody use the ice rink outside of school hours or over the weekend for the time being.
Dates to note:
Primary Dad’s Night is next Wednesday, February 12th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. We hope to see you there!
School will be closed on Monday, February 17th for the Presidents’ Day holiday.
