Primary: Sunshine - Feb. 2020

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

Wow! February is here!

The Sunshine classroom will delve into all things to do with love and kindness this month. We will be learning about St. Valentine, making valentines, and receiving visits from our new Kindness Elves!! We are going to study the continent of Africa this month. We will be discussing the animals that live there, the climate zones and hemispheres, and the diverse cultures of the area. We are also going to learn about magnets.

Valentine's Day in the Sunshine room will be a special day. The children will make one valentine in the classroom for a special recipient. We will choose the recipient out of a jar, so they know who it is. Please no store-bought valentines or candy.

Thank you to all the moms (and dads) that were able to attend Mom's night. Ms. Lilly and Ms. Mary Ellen said it was a great turn out! It is wonderful when the children get to show you what they are working on and what they are capable of. They are always so proud. Dads, you will get your turn on Wednesday, February 12th from 6 to 7 p.m.

Thank you to Joni (Owen’s mom) and her team for the dental presentation. We love having presentations from parents. The children were so excited to share what they know about brushing and flossing their teeth. Turns out parents should help their children brush and floss until they are about 10 years old! (And don’t forget to brush your tongue.)

Thank you to those of you who have come to help with ice skating. Hopefully, we can have some more ice-skating days this month and next.

Thanks to Ms. Lilly. She traveled to Egypt when she was younger and shared some amazing photographs with the children. She also talked about the Seven Wonders of the World. Do you know what they are? While in Egypt, Lilly met two camels named Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. Lilly asked the children if they knew who they were and they said no.

A friendly reminder about arriving at the Sunshine classroom door for drop-off. Our class and lesson time begins at 8:00 a.m. We are available until 8:30 a.m. to assist you or your child, but after that time, the classroom door will be closed and we will be busy presenting lessons and helping the children who are in the classroom. Please do your best to get to school by 8:30 a.m. There is a bin with paper and a pen on top of the cubby, if you need to relay a message to us after 8:30 a.m. You can say good-bye to your child with the classroom door closed. Then, have them slide into the classroom and deliver the note to a teacher. One of our main jobs is to protect the worker; thank you for your help with this.

What is Valentine’s Day? It is a holiday to celebrate love, friendship, and affection.

Thank you for sharing your children with us,

Ms. Jessie, Ms. Megan, and Ms. Lilly
