Happy New Year!

I hope the break with your family was fun and restful. We are all glad to be back at school and excited for many upcoming events and projects. Here’s to a wonderful new year!

Upcoming Field Trips: We are excited to have multiple ski days in January and February. We will be going to Bridger Bowl on Thursday, January 23rd from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and Crosscut on February 5th from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm. Please make sure that your child is prepared for the weather. Each child should have a backpack with their lunch, a water bottle, and any extra supplies they may need for the day. Thank you for helping with these trips. We know they will be memorable ones.

ROC Wheelchairs: The students are really looking forward to building two wheelchairs on Tuesday, January 16th in the barn. The wheelchairs will be a hands-on learning process and take about three hours to complete. These chairs will then be sent to children in Mexico over Spring Break with a youth group from Bozeman. We really appreciate your help with this project!

We will have our first Let’s Go Learn Assessment on January 17th, 21st, and 22nd. You will receive feedback from these assessments with your child’s report card, which will be distributed on January 31st. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to have a conference at this time. Our next formal conferences are not until April, but I am happy to meet with you before then, if you would like.

Topics of Study: The students are delving into the study of Early Humans and Ancient Civilizations. We will focus on the fundamental needs of humans and how civilizations have evolved over time. The students will research a specific Ancient Civilization and create a board game to demonstrate all they have learned. We will also be working on map skills and begin to study the Scientific Method in preparation for our Science Fair on April 15th.

Expert Day: Expert Day will be held on Wednesday, February 26th from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. You are invited to come anytime to see and experience the lessons and Montessori materials firsthand. Your child will be a teacher on this afternoon, demonstrating one of their favorite lessons to all the parents of our class. They gain so much pride and confidence from this experience.

School will be closed on Monday, January 20th in recognition of Martin Luther King Day.

Have a great month,

~Ms. Jessica
