Elementary: Upper El. - Feb. 2020

Greetings from the Upper Elementary!

While the kids have enjoyed the warmer weather, they sure are excited to see snow return to our playground. They can’t wait for the snow to be plowed in the parking lot, so they can have more terrain for tunnel digging and mountain climbing.

For Valentine’s Day this year, the students are encouraged to bring in valentine’s cards (especially homemade valentines) for each person in the class. They will make bags in art class to bring home their special notes. We will also create special compliment cards in class that we will distribute as well.

Expert Afternoon is on Wednesday, February 26th from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Please stop by during that time to receive a lesson from your child and many others. The Elementary students are eager to be the teacher and demonstrate one of their favorite Montessori lessons to you.

Over the past month, we have been learning more about the history of humans and their fundamental needs. We have explored the discoveries that humans have made over time and the origins of language and numbers. The discussions have been full of wonder and excitement, as well as predictions about the future of humans.

As a culmination of these studies, the students are going to create their own ancient civilization game and game board. They have decided on a civilization to study in depth, created trivia cards, and will be designing a game board to learn all about the civilization. Upon completion, we will be using the games with Lower El. to spread the knowledge and the fun! I can’t wait to see their creations.

Save the Date: Our tentative dates for our end-of-the-year overnight field trip are May 12th to 13th with May 19th to 20th as rain dates. I will let you know more details about the trip as I solidify them.

I enjoy coming to work each day to teach a group of students so eager to learn!
