It is so hard to believe it is already May!
We have had such a wonderful year of learning and growing together that the year has just flown by!
This last month will be very busy with many different activities. May is the month of the classroom store. The store will open every day at 10:40. The third graders will be the cashiers, and every child will have one morning a week to shop. They will each have $1.00 play money to spend. There will be a variety of beans, noodles, beads, erasers, rope, toys, and other things to buy. The children will be using many of their math skills, buying things by the foot, ounce, cup, and in multiples. They can keep and bring home everything they buy, so you will be seeing a variety of items come home. The store is a lot of fun and a great math exercise.
"Thank you to Nemo, our classroom tortoise, for being such a wonderful reading assistant. "
This month, we will be spending some afternoons out at the creek. We will be collecting samples of invertebrates, as well as building dams, bridges, and jetties. Please send rubber boots or water shoes, a change of clothes, and a towel as the children will get wet and dirty!
As the days get warmer, please make sure your child has some sunscreen, a hat if you like, and a water bottle.
Thank you to Visser Greenhouse for having us out for a field trip, as well as Tan’s parents for helping to organize it. It was amazing to see their operation from mixing the soil, filling trays, transplanting starters, and the huge variety of plants they grow.
Thank you also to the many parent volunteers that helped drive us all out there. It was a very special afternoon and one the children very much enjoyed.
Thank you to Leighton’s parents for organizing our elementary conservation afternoon, it was truly an amazing afternoon!
