Elementary: Lower El - Oct. 2019

Updated: Oct 31, 2019

We have had another wonderful month working on many new lessons and enjoying our days together. Our mornings are full of reading, math, language arts, and handwriting. It is such a joy to see the children getting excited about their work and receiving new lessons.

For our afternoon lessons, we have been studying earth sciences with a variety of experiments. We had lessons on the cooling of the earth's surface, the water cycle, and densities of liquids and gasses. We made models of the layers of the earth and had experiments to go along with the States of Matter.

We also started an afternoon Spanish class period this month, which the children are all enjoying. This is in addition to H.E., Art, and Music.

The children had a wonderful time harvesting the garden vegetables and then cleaning, peeling, and cutting them up for our harvest soup. It was a special addition to their lunch. We will be planting a garden again at the end of the school year for harvest next fall.

I enjoyed meeting with all of you for Parent/Teacher Conferences. It was wonderful to get together and focus on each child and how we can all help them best.

Thank you to Shane Doyle for coming and sharing with our students some of the culture of Native Americans. The children enjoyed listening to his stories and songs. He was a very special guest and we appreciate him taking time to come to our school.

Thank you to all of the families who brought in lettuce for Nemo and all those who are signed up for future weeks.

Thank you to the Upper Elementary students for being such wonderful reading buddies to some of the Lower Elementary students. The children look forward to this weekly period of reading and enjoying books together.

Historical Halloween will be Thursday, October 31st at 8:45 am. This is a really fun program that is open to parents and family members. Each child will choose and research a real person in history who has left a positive legacy. They will be dressed as this person and read a short biography about them.

As we get further into fall, please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing. We go outside every day for recess, unless it is 10 degrees Fahrenheit or colder or raining.

Happy Fall Everyone!
